The Tokyo Marathon

We continue our tour of this season’s Marathon Majors. This time we are back from Tokyo, the newest of the Majors, which has reached its 12th anniversary and registered a record number of participants, with a total of 36,000 runners at the start line and about 300,000 applicants.

The route of this marathon goes past some of the most significant sights in Tokyo city, including the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, Nihombashi, Asakusa, Ginza, Hibyia Park, and the Imperial Palace, finishing at Tokyo Station/Gyoko-dori Ave.

Our pro Hideyuki Shibachi was there, upholding the good name of the WINTECARE specialists, gathering important information about treatment programmes for the marathon. He provided technical support for registered runners and was especially present for the Ethiopian Feyisa Lilesa, winner of the 2016 marathon, and the young Ethiopian Birhane Dibaba, who was the winner for the second time!

Congratulations to these athletes and their team. Even more satisfying for us than the support provided at individual events, is the long-term work carried out in the high altitude camps where these champions train.
