Breaking the daily routine to work alongside the world’s athletic champions

The stars of world athletics met up in Eugene last weekend for one of the most classic Diamond League meets, the Prefontaine Classic. Achieving a victory in this stage is a big deal for all the Nike-sponsored athletes because the event is organised by this American giant, just a few kilometres from its headquarters.

Nike offered its athletes and all the others staying at the Valley River Inn for this special event the assistance of two WINTECARE specialists. Hideyuki Shibachi and Fernando Ferrer Altemir spent long hours on pre-competition activation and post-competition recovery sessions to enable the athletes who came through our stations to give their very best performance.

Our samurai and Spaniard saw more than 30 athletes, in a total of 76 sessions. Champions who visited the WINTECARE treatment room included Christian Taylor (triple jump), Semenya Caster (women’s 800m), Marie-Josée Ta Lou (women’s 100m), Omar Mcleod (110m hurdles) Genzebe Dibaba (women’s 5000m), Jereem Richards (men’s 200m), Nigel Amos (men’s 800m) and Francine Niyonsaba (women’s 800m). Names that, aside from results they achieved at this specific event, have been in the world’s athletic hall of fame for years.

How does a small company in Chiasso end up alongside the world’s best athletes? This is a long story that has its roots in the people who make up our extraordinary international team.
